Hector and Achilles

It came to me upon a midnight clear,
When rain doth fall and night stood still,
The silent earth lent forth her ear,
As dreams took shape by unseen will.

Yet time rolled on with gentle hand,
The dark gave way, the east grew bright,
And all the sky, a gilded band,
Unfurled the promise of the light.

It came to me upon a morning fair,
When sun did rise and dew lay still,
The fields awoke with tender air,
And whispered hope through vale and hill.

As link by link the sleepless reverie
weaves thoughts’ unbroken chain:
Night’s weightless passage hushed by rain,
In twilight lullabied, the cradled Earth –
Wide – Breathing still until its morning birth.
